THE BEST WAY TO WASH YOUR FACE

Washing your face is, no doubt an essential skincare step, if not the most essential step in your skincare routine. Therefore, it’s important to discover ways to get the most out of cleansing like knowing which face wash is best for your skin or how many times a day you need to wash your face.

Read on and let the experts at Kiehl’s share some of their top cleansing tips for the best way to wash your face.

TIP #1: USE A GENTLE FACE WASH

Harsh soaps and cleansers can irritate your skin and trigger increased oil production, so look for gentle formulas infused with soothing ingredients like Cucumber Extract. We recommend a mild face wash for all skin types, including sensitive, that cleanses without disrupting skin’s natural balance. Cucumber Herbal Conditioning Cleanser transforms from a gel to a light, thin oil to gently melt away dirt, oil, and impurities. Made with Chamomile, Aloe Vera, and Cucumber Fruit Extracts, this conditioning formula leaves skin smoother, more radiant, and comfortably soothed.

TIP #2: WASH YOUR FACE TWICE A DAY

Keeping your skin clean and fresh is important, but washing your face too often can dry or irritate it, and potentially lead to breakouts. A good rule to follow is to wash your face twice a day and after exercise or sweating, since sweat mixed with surface debris can contribute to clogged pores. Use a mild foaming cleanser suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Ultra Facial Cleanser is a gentle liquid formula that thoroughly cleanses without over-drying or stripping skin.

TIP #3 TRY MICELLAR WATER

For the perfect no-rinse solution to washing your face, especially when on-the-go, try micellar water. Our micellar water is an herbal water formula that effectively cleanses skin and removes makeup without rinsing, rubbing or scrubbing. We recommend a hydrating micellar water infused with Lemon Balm Floral Water and Thyme Essential Oil. Herbal-Infused Micellar Cleansing Water is an all-in-one cleanser with a pleasant herbal aroma that instantly traps and lifts away dirt, impurities, and makeup from skin’s surface with a cotton pad. Plus, it’s ideal for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Saturate a cotton pad with micellar water and gently sweep over the face, including the eye and lip area. If wearing eye makeup, hold a saturated cotton pad over each eye for about 3 seconds before gently sweeping away. Repeat as necessary until eye makeup is lifted, taking care not to tug skin, before moving on to the rest of the face. No rinsing needed!

Kiehl’s Tip: For a deeper clean, try double cleansing, a method of cleansing your face twice. Begin by gently sweeping a cotton pad soaked with micellar water over the entire face, eye, and lip area to remove makeup, dirt, and oil, then follow with a foaming cleanser designed to replenish and soothe skin. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a soft towel.

TIP #4: USE A CLEANSING OIL TO REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP COMPLETELY

Makeup and makeup residue, even if it’s non-comedogenic can contribute to clogged pores, which can lead to breakouts. Cleansing oils are ideal for makeup users because they help remove makeup and impurities from skin’s surface without over-drying. Try a lightweight oil cleanser that effectively removes makeup, dirt, and oil. Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil is an all-in-one formula that gently dissolves even hard to remove makeup and impurities, leaving skin clean and replenished. Dispense 3-4 pumps into dry or wet hands and massage into skin including eye area. Add water and massage skin to emulsify. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel.

Kiehl’s Tip: To remove stubborn or waterproof makeup, apply one pump of our Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil to a cotton pad and hold over the eye before cleansing the entire face. One swipe and makeup melts off!

TIP #5 RINSE YOUR FACE WITH LUKEWARM WATER

Always cleanse and rinse your face with lukewarm water. Hot water can strip essential oils from your skin’s surface, leaving it dry and irritated so always use lukewarm water for maximum efficiency.

TIP #6 PAT (NEVER RUB!) SKIN DRY

Scrubbing or rubbing your face can irritate your skin, so after you cleanse, pat your skin dry with a soft towel instead. Gently blotting your skin dry will also help leave a little bit of moisture behind for a fresh, healthy look!

TIP #7 USE A FACIAL TONER

To maximize your cleansing routine, use an effective facial toner. Facial toners help refresh and restore skin’s pH balance, but they also help remove excess oil, impurities, and makeup that may have lingered after cleansing. Reach for an alcohol-free toner infused with hand-picked calendula flower petals, Burdock Root Extract, and Allantoin. Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-Free Toner gently balances skin’s natural oils and removes any remaining cleanser residue, dirt, and debris. Perfect for normal to oily skin types, including sensitive skin and formulated without alcohol or harsh synthetic drying agents.

Kiehl’s Tip: After cleansing and before moisturizing, pat facial toner all over your face to gently soothe and refresh skin while removing any residual impurities.
